Retail can be a tough environment to protect. In particular store interiors are subject to a constant barrage of scuffs and scrapes from bags, trolleys, products and people, quickly turning smart looking stores into scruffy eyesores.
Keeping your store in tip top shape can be an costly struggle without some form of retail wall protection to absorb the daily bumps and scrapes. However with a wide variety of solutions on the market, selecting the right retail wall protection can be perplexing.
Here are five wall protection characteristics that we believe are essential for any retail store.
1. Impact Resistant
The primary purpose of retail wall protection is of course to protect, so it’s worthwhile making sure that any wall protection is in fact impact resistant. Unless you want to be continuously repairing or replacing panels or sheets, wall protection should be able to withstand substantial impacts from both blunt and sharp edged objects, without damaging the wall protection, the underlying wall, or creating any sharp safety hazards.
2. Easy To Clean
During the day, your walls can pick up a surprising amount of dirt, scuffs and rub marks. These can often be cleaned off with soapy water, but sometimes require a stronger cleaning agent. Retail wall protection should be easy to clean as part of your existing cleaning regime, but also cope with stronger cleaning products without discoloration or staining.
3. Textured Surface
Whilst smooth wall surfaces initially provide a clean and sharp look, they quickly pick up and show scratches and scrapes of all sizes, turning a smooth wall into an ugly one. A lightly textured wall protection surface hides scratches and scrapes, so that your store stays looking smart longer.
4. Through Colour
Coping with impacts and scrapes comes with the territory, but watch out for wall protection that isn’t “through colour”. Some wall protection is manufactured in layers, and when the top layer is scratched or damaged a highly visible different coloured sub-layer is exposed – which never looks good. Instead, look for retail wall protection that is through-colour, meaning that any heavy impacts are scratches are still difficult to spot.
5. Colour Match
Branding is one of the bedrocks of your retail strategy, so it is essential that your stores fully support your brand identity. Rather than select a wall protection that deviates from your brand guidelines, look for wall protection that can be colour matched to support your branding efforts.
