Full Case Study
The Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex is a fun-filled museum with more than 23 attractions, that enables over 1.5 million visitors a year to explore space. Among its many attractions is a 3D IMAX cinema, showcasing documentaries on space exploration and the discoveries NASA has made since its foundation in 1959.
Design Goals
Kennedy Space Center chose DesignShop, a leading exhibit designer, to design and create a new experience within their IMAX complex, in addition to updating and stylising the lobby & concession area.
As the IMAX Experience is one of the most popular attractions at the Kennedy Space Center, wall and graphics damage – and its associated repair costs – were a concern for DesignShop. They needed a graphic solution that could withstand the daily wear and tear of such a popular facility. Therefore, DesignShop chose CS Acrovyn by Design.
Results
CS Acrovyn by Design combines high-resolution digital printing with Acrovyn PVC-Free wall protection material that is proven in thousands of facilities worldwide.
Installed on the corridor walls and lobby doors, Acrovyn by Design showcases floor-to-ceiling photographs of NASA astronauts floating through the International Space Station, helping to protect the underlying wall and door surfaces from damage.
And because the images are encapsulated behind a clear Acrovyn protective layer, the photographs won’t be damaged by surface bumps and scratches, ensuring they will stay looking good for years to come.
Michael Rainey of DesignShop said “With Acrovyn by Design’s customisation capabilities, we were able to bring our design visions to life.”
